CARIBBEAN NATIONALS

If you are a citizen of a CARICOM country and have a University Degree you may apply to the Immigration Department for a permit to live and work in Barbados. If you do not qualify, the same would apply for you as for all other foreign nationals. (See below). Agreements regarding the movement of labour within CARICOM often being reviewed, please check with your local Immigration Department.

FOREIGN NATIONALS

For all foreign nationals who are not from a CARICOM country, a work permit is obligatory for Barbados. This may be granted only if there is no Barbadian available with the necessary qualifications and experience. The employer offering the position must apply for the permit and prove to the Immigration Department that no suitable local applicant is available. If obtained, the work permit is valid for that position only. Opportunities therefore exist mainly at the very senior level or in very specialised areas.

For further details, you may contact:
The Immigration Department, Careenage House, The Wharf, Bridgetown, Barbados, West Indies. Telephone: (246) 426-1011 or Fax: (246) 426-0819.
